Zooey Deschanel has signed up to star in a new comedy pilot for Fox.

The 31-year-old actress will appear in the TV show as Jessica, an unlucky-in-love school teacher who moves in with three immature men after breaking up with her boyfriend.

According to Variety, the ensemble comedy will explore "the sexual politics of men and women via a woman who moves in with three boorish men".

It will be the '500 Days of Summer' star's first regular TV role, although she has previously made guest appearances on sitcom 'Frasier' and alongside her sister Emily Deschanel in procedural drama 'Bones'.

The new untitled show will be directed by Jake Kasdan and is being developed by Liz Meriwether, the writer and producer behind recent romantic comedy 'No Strings Attached' starring Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman.

The role will be one of many projects Zooey is currently involved in; aside from acting she performs in the band She & Him and has a contract with cosmetics company Rimmel.
