Former child star Zachary Gordon portrayed the lead character of Greg Heffley in the 2010 movie, which was based on the book of the same name by Jeff Kinney.

Gordon, now 18, also featured in two follow-ups, 2011's Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules and 2012's Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days, but now studio bosses at Fox are giving the series a revamp with 10-year-old Jason Ian Drucker taking over the role of Greg, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Owen Asztalos has been cast as his best friend, Rowley Jefferson, a role previously played by Robert Capron.

Director David Bowers, who took charge of the two sequels, will return for the new project, a big screen adaptation of Kinney's 2014 story Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul.
