Zac Efron ''looked forward'' to the kissing scenes in 'The Lucky One'.

The 'High School Musical' actor plays a marine who goes to North Carolina to search for a woman - played by Taylor Schilling - he believes was a good luck charm in three tours of duty of Iraq, and although he thinks such scenes are often over-hyped, he was excited to do them in this film.

He said: ''I looked forward to those scenes in this one. Romantic scenes get built up because they're something that's coming up. It seems like they're always looming and other people don't want to talk about them because somehow it's got this weird awkward perception.

''Once you get there, if it's with somebody you really trust, I thought that was one of the easiest days.''

However, it was not all easy for the 24-year-old hunk - who previously dated Vanessa Hudgens and was recently linked to Lily Collins - as he had to spend plenty of time in the gym to get into shape to play the soldier.

He said: ''There were striking differences between the way that they were and I was. I was able to look at that early on, and then physically, there was a lot to be done. The hardest part about this was the physical transformation.

''The principles I learned, absolutely. I carry them with me and I still try to apply them, on a lot less rigorous agenda.''
