The Beatles icon was murdered by crazed fan Mark Chapman on 8 December, 1980, outside his home in Manhattan's Dakota building, and his widow has continued his avid peace campaigning since the tragedy.

In a poignant message to her fans on Tuesday (08Dec15), Yoko points out there has been more than one million victims of gun crime since Lennon's murder, and she calls for action to halt the wave of killings.

In a post on Twitter.com, Yoko writes, "Over 1,100,000 people killed by guns in the USA since @JohnLennon was shot and killed on Dec 8 1980 #StopGunViolence."
