The Summer Set Anberlin A Rocket To The Moon Yellowcard Cute Is What We Aim For

Music festivals. A Summer pastime! There’s nothing better than spending your day surrounded by great tunes, scorching heat, and weird girls dressed in stuff they made from flowers. If you’re like me and you’re too poor to attend the upcoming events like Lollapalooza in Chicago, Riot Fest in Chicago, and the Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago, you might just have to settle for a little thing called the Vans Warped Tour. Wait, why is everything in Chicago? Anyway, the Warped Tour kicked off its nationwide routing this week and its got the best line-up that the tour has seen in years. With over 100 bands that will see the stage, it might be tough deciding which set you want to spend your time with. Luckily, we’ve got you covered with the top five bands that shouldn’t be missed.

The Summer Set

The Summer Set should be playing arenas already, but since the music industry is devoid of any logic, they’re tearing it up this summer on Warped for the second year in a row. However, that’s not a bad thing. It just means they’re one of the best acts on the tour yet again. With an eight song set filled with old ones and newer ones, The Summer Set’s pop jams will have you singing even once you’ve moved on to watch the next band.

Kerrang! Releasing 'American Idiot' Tribute Album

Green Day A Day To Remember Yellowcard New Found Glory Frank Iero 5 Seconds of Summer

Popular UK rock magazine Kerrang! has been known for the occasional covermount CD packaged with one of their issues, and they’ll be adding to that list next month. On June 11, Kerrang! will be releasing a tribute album for Green Day’s iconic record, American Idiot, to celebrate its ten year anniversary. According to a flyer tweeted out by Kerrang! editor James McMahon, the track listing is set to feature bands like You Me at Six, Falling In Reverse, Frank Iero, and 5 Seconds of Summer. Additionally, extra covers from Green Day’s Dookie will be included as well. No confirmed tracks have been announced yet, but the thought of 5 Seconds of Summer possibly covering “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” while You Me at Six takes on “Jesus of Suburbia” is enough to have us anticipate the release immensely.

In the meantime, which covers from pop-punk bands have been the best? You’ve got labels like Fearless Records releasing cover compilations every year, and bands have even made their own cover full-lengths. If anything’s for certain, there’s never a shortage of a band’s rendition of the current hit pop song or a classic oldie, but no matter the genre, they’re always looking to put their own spin on it to make it theirs. In some cases, the covers actually turn out better than the original.

Having broken into the mainstream with their 2003 major label debut, 'Ocean Avenue', Florida quintet maintained a position in the punk-pop mid-table up until going on hiatus in 2008.
