Each of the 15 characters available in DOAU has lots of unique fighting moves; most requiring simple button combinations and D pad commands. A few moves require simultaneous button presses or Street Fighter II-style circular motions. The key to successful fighting isn't about mastering how to execute all the different moves; instead, it comes from understanding when and where to use them. The fighting pace is intense and the best approach is to mix up your styles using blocks as well as attacks. Any attack can be reversed and counter attacked so there is no way to power your way through rounds.

Graphically DOAU is jaw dropping stuff. DOA3, which was one of the first Xbox titles available, really showed off the consoles graphical ability and DOAU continues to push that boundary. Tecmo are known for stunning graphics and DOAU lives up to their outstanding Ninja Gaiden title released last year, anyone familiar with Ninja Gaiden will be pleased to see that games main character lives on in the DOA series. The character animation is fantastic stuff, the hair and outfits are meticulously detailed and players truly flow through their fighting styles. The backgrounds in the game are no less than phenomenal. Featuring multiple platforms within each fighting arena, you can kick your opponent through a window and watch as he falls the whole way down the side of a mountain. Each fighting arena also has breakable bits such as; walls, floors, pillars, windows etc. Even though there is all this gorgeous graphical quality the game maintains a very smooth frame rate that never really falters. Soundwise, there isn't much to report. Sound isn't that important in fighting titles, as long as the hits and groans sound good the rest of your brain needs to be dealing with the joypad and taking in the awesome graphics.
