A New York rapper affiliated with the Wu-Tang Clan has surrendered to police after he was allegedly involved in a fatal hit-and-run early on New Year's Day (01Jan14).
Shyheim Franklin turned himself in to police on Wednesday (08Jan14) in connection to the death of 29-year-old Felipe Avila, who was killed in a car crash as he made his way to work at a local bakery in Staten Island.
Franklin, 36, stands accused of failing to obey a stop sign and slamming into Avila's car. He then reportedly hit a parked vehicle and abandoned his borrowed Volvo as he ran off.
The rapper, who was already on bail for a drug and gun arrest last April (13), is now facing a felony charge of leaving the scene of a fatal accident.
A day before surrendering to cops (07Jan14), Franklin shared a video message on YouTube.com asking fans for donations to cover the costs of his mounting legal woes.
He said, "Yo, to all of my family, friends and fans, reaching out, being support (sic). You know, I'm in a lot of trouble right now and I need help for my legal defence so I can have a fair shot in court".
Franklin, who has a long criminal record, has previously recorded music with the Wu-Tang's RZA and Tupac Shakur under the stage names Manchild, Little Shyheim and The Rugged Child, while he also once shared the stage with the late Notorious B.I.G. at Madison Square Garden.
