The sci-fi series became an instant hit when it launched on the streaming service in July (16), and now Netflix bosses have ordered more episodes, which they'll air in 2017.

Actress Shannon Purser, who portrayed Barb in season one, celebrated the news by tweeting: "We've finally been renewed for Season 2!!! So happy for my fellow cast! Hope to see them again soon."

Her tweet sparked a spoiler alert because her character was killed off in the first series.

And Millie Bobby Brown, who played young girl Eleven, has taken to Instagram to share her excitement, captioning a photo of herself in character: "stranger things season 2 has been confirmed; coming in 2017!"

Show creators the Duffer Brothers are refusing to reveal their plans for the second season, but Ross Duffer recently told Entertainment Weekly the story will stay set in the 1980s, adding, "There's still more story here, there's still things that are unresolved."
