Country legend Willie Nelson was presented with a lifetime achievement award by Kris Kristofferson at a ceremony in Nashville, Tennessee on Sunday night (27Jan13).

The Always on My Mind hitmaker landed the Nashville Songwriter Association International's (Nsai) inaugural Kris Kristofferson Award, and his longterm pal handed over the honour during a private prizegiving at Nashville's Bluebird Cafe.

The accolade will be bestowed upon songwriters who have inspired generations with their music, and the recipient will be determined by the Nsai's board of directors.

Kristofferson knew Nelson would be the first winner of the prize, and told the board, "It has to be Willie. His music has touched the world."

After the award presentation, the two stars performed several of their hits.
