Country legend Willie Nelson avoided prison yesterday (24Apr07) after pleading guilty to one count of marijuana possession, escaping with a fine of just $1,024 (GBP525). The Always On My Mind singer, 73, was arrested along with his sister Bobbie, tour manager David Anderson and two drivers last September (06), after marijuana and hallucinogenic mushrooms were found during a police search of Nelson's tour bus. Nelson and Anderson were each ordered to pay the fine and put on six months probation, in exchange for the charges against Bobbie to be dropped. The drivers were not charged for possession of drugs because St. Martin Parish Assistant District Attorney Chester Cedars did not believe they "had anything to do with the contraband".
