The actor, who has played Jesus Christ and a string of bad guys on the big screen, poked fun at his super-serious reputation by playing Marilyn's hungry, grumpy alter-ego in the quirky commercial, which debuted in February (16).

Now the gown he wore to recreate the tragic screen icon's famous subway grate scene from 1955 film The Seven Year Itch is up for sale to the highest bidder.

It will be among the items on offer at Julien's Auctions Monroe-themed sale in September (16).

It's anyone's guess what the replica will fetch at auction, but it's unlikely to be anything close to the real thing, which went under the hammer for over $4.6 million (£3.2 million) in 2011 when actress Debbie Reynolds sold it from her private collection.

All proceeds from the sale of the Dafoe dress will benefit hunger-relief organisation Feeding America.
