British pop star Will Young felt crushed when his deal to become a judge on The Voice fell through and he blames producers for "leading him on".

The singer, who found fame by winning Britain's American Idol forerunner Pop Idol in 2002, was close to signing a contract to join the panel of the U.K. version of the Tv talent show ahead of its debut in March (12).

However, the deal fell through and the job was given to The Script star Danny O'Donoghue, and Young admits he was devastated by the snub.

He tells British newspaper the Daily Express, "I don't think I have ever been treated like that - been led on so long for a job and then had it taken away, or ever been so weirdly upset about it. It was a great reminder that this business is a cruel one."
