Will Smith's bodyguard urged his boss not to attend a charity event he was planning in the movie star's native Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, because he's sick of watching so-called friends take advantage of the action man.

CHARLIE 'MACK' ALSTON invited a host of stars to attend his weekend PARTY 4 Peace event last month (AUG04), but insisted Smith should not turn up.

Alston explains, "Will's grandmother passed away and that really kind of woke me up about what's going on with him.

"People were viewing her body and turning around and taking pictures of Will. That's a sad situation.

"So, for me, I didn't want the message to get caught up. It's not a Will Smith thing."

Generous Smith, who was promoting new film I, ROBOT in Europe, didn't let the weekend of charity concerts, star-studded basketball tournaments and fashion shows pass without any acknowledgement - he sent a hefty donation to the event's leading charity, MOTHERS IN CHARGE, which was set up to help mothers who have lost children to Philadelphia's street violence.
