Will Smith's post-apocalyptic movie After Earth has wiped out the competition at the U.K. box office chart to debut at number one.

The sci-fi film, co-starring Will's son Jaden Smith, was poorly received when it was released in the U.S. at the end of last month (May13) - but the Hollywood star has been given a reason to smile again thanks to the support from fans in Britain.

After Earth grossed $3.41 million (£2.2 million) in the U.K., overtaking last week's most popular film, The Hangover Part Iii, which fell to two with $1.71 million (£1.1 million).

Fast & Furious 6, Epic and The Great Gatsby round out the new top five.
