Will.i.am complimented Britain's Queen Elizabeth on her sense of style.
The Black Eyed Peas star met the monarch backstage at the Diamond Jubilee concert last year and during their brief exchange, he told her he liked her dress as it was similar to one owned by his grandma.
He said: ''I told the queen I liked her dress and that my grandma had one like it. Kylie Minogue introduced me to her and it was amazing. Everybody was like, 'Wow, Kylie knows the queen.' ''
will has also met the queen's grandson, Prince William - who has four-month-old son Prince George with wife Duchess Catherine - and made a joke to him about their shared first name.
He said: ''I met him and I told him to stay away from the full stops. I said he had to stick to William. No splitting up the words. He's really cool. His wife is really cool too.''
'The Voice UK' coach's friend Cheryl Cole has previously revealed she had to order him not to tweet while sharing a stage with the queen at the concert.
She told heat magazine: ''I actually had to warn him as we walked on to the stage. He had the phone at the ready. I'm not joking, I had to say to him, 'Put that phone away right now before I kill you'.''
The '12 Years A Slave' director will receive the accolade at the London Film Festival in October.
