Will Arnett has joined the cast of 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles'.

The comedian and 'Up All Night' star has landed a lead role in Paramount and Platinum Dunes' upcoming live action reboot of the classic comic book franchise, which is being produced by Michael Bay, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The actor's role is shrouded in secrecy, but there are several roles from the comic books and previous film incarnations that have yet to be cast in the new movie, including the role of the crime-fighting reptiles' karate expert mentor, Splinter, the villainous Shredder and the Ninja Turtles' human friend Casey. However, Arnett isn't expected to play the latter part.

Playing the titular characters are rising actors Alan Ritchson as Raphael, Noel Fisher as Michaelangelo, Pete Ploszek as Leonardo and Jeremy Howard as Donatello.

'Transformers' beauty Megan Fox will also star in the lead female role, playing TV news reporter April O'Neil, who is friends with the sewer dwelling ninjas.

The new incarnation of 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' - directed by Jonathan Liebesman - will utilise both CGI and live action, using performance capture to bring the crime-fighters to life, in a similar vein to James Cameron's 'Avatar'.

'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' is tentatively set for release in June 2014.
