The film, featuring the voices of Will Arnett and Rosario Dawson, has kept Fifty Shades Darker in second place for a second weekend with an additional $35 million (GBP28 million).

The Lego Batman Movie has now crossed the $100 million mark at the domestic cinema.

The film soared to the top of the North American box office in its opening weekend (10-12Feb17), earning $55.6 million (£44.5 million) - $9 million (GBP7.2 million) more than the Fifty Shades of Grey sequel.

Fifty Shades Darker, comes in second again this week. The racy movie, starring Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson, hauled in $20.9 million (GBP17 million) over the Presidents Day weekend for a 10-day domestic total of $92.9 million (GBP75 million).

The sequel showed signs of toppling the latest Lego movie over Valentine's Day (14Feb17), becoming one of the annual holiday's highest grossing films.

It raked in $11 million (GBP8.8 million) at the box office, more than double The Lego Batman Movie, which picked up $5 million (GBP4 million) over the same 24-hour period.

Only 2012's The Vow enjoyed a better Valentine's Day box office for a weekday 14 February - it made $11.5 million (GBP9.2 million).

Matt Damon‘s new movie The Great Wall debuts at three with $18.1 million (GBP14.5 million), while John Wick: Chapter Two and Ice Cube's new comedy Fist Fight round out the new top five Rounding out the top five, with $16.5 million (GBP13.3 million) and $12.2 million (GBP9.8 million), respectively.
