Brooklyn hailing, Nashville based Keegan DeWitt's career in music could have gone either way. For years he wrote scores for indie films, but despite the success, it could never match the fuel of fronting his own band. He started using one to feed the other, but soon became fed up with the cost of living in New York and relocated to Nashville. Alongside multi-instrumentalist Jeremy Bullock, the pair formed Wild Cub, and Keegan's priorities were no longer shared.
No sooner had the band formed that things started moving quickly for Wild Cub, their music climbed the US radio charts, gigs started selling out in venues from state to state, and Wild Cub were building up a head of steam. Off the back of a storming performance on the Jimmy Fallon Show in January, they released their debut album Youth to widespread praise via Mom + Pop Records (Polica, Jagwar Ma, Flume, Courtney Barnett, FIDLAR).
Keegan though had ideas beyond initial success in his own country, and Wild Cub touched down in London to play a handful of sold-out shows with The 1975 and their own headline show which also sold-out based on word of mouth alone.
Freshly signed to Virgin/EMI, 'Colour' marks the first UK single for Wild Cub. It will be backed with b-side 'Blacktide'.
'Colour' is a heady statement of intent too, all chiming, urgent guitars building to a rousing chorus. It evokes early Foals in its immediacy, but also the more classic sounds of The Cure and Blondie. It doesn't require much of an introduction; it's a great song by a very promising, confident band.
Currently out on a full sold-out US tour with Vampire Weekend, Wild Cub will head over to UK for seven dates in May, including a headline show at London's Oslo on May 7th.
The band will also be performing at this year's Liverpool Sound City, Live at Leeds, and The Great Escape festival in Brighton.
