Memories of the late Whitney Houston took centre stage at the annual Bet Awards in Los Angeles last night, as a sizeable chunk of the awards evening was dedicated to the singer who was found dead in a bathtub at a Beverly Hills hotel in February.
Mariah Carey started the proceedings, sharing heartfelt anecdotes of her encounters with Houston in the past. Singer Monica performed Houston's 'I Love The Lord', followed by Brandy, who sang a medley of 'I'm Your Baby Tonight' and 'I Wanna Dance With Somebody'. Family of the late singer were also on hand to perform in honour of Whitney, with her brother Gary singing 'Where You Are', followed by her mother Cissy, performing a heartfelt rendition of 'Bridge Over Troubled Water', earning a standing ovation and tears from the likes of Beyonce.
Houston's co-stars from her 1995 film Waiting To Exhale also remembered the late star, before Chaka Khan rounded off the tribute with a rendition of the classic hit, 'I'm Every Woman'. The awards show also paid homage to the recently deceased Donna Summer. Picking up awards at the bash were Beyonce, Jay Z and Kanye West, Chris Brown and rappers Wale, Miguel and BIG SEAN.
