Whitney Houston is set the make her first appearance on the silver screen since 1996 according to hollywoodreporter.com.
The 48-year-old singer will star opposite fellow singer Jordin Sparks and actor Mike Epps in a remake of Sparkle; originally released in 1976 it is a musical themed drama that follows the fortunes of a girl group in the 1950s and their rise to stardom. Houston has been involved with the project for at least 10 years and had originally wanted R&B singer Aaliyah to play the lead role back in 2001 but the movie was shelved after the singer died in a plane crash. The movie will also mark the acting debut of Jordin Sparks who won the sixth series of talent contest American Idol.
Whitney Houston was born in New Jersey to a musically gifted family, her aunties are Dionne and Dee Dee Warwick while her godmother is legendary gospel singer Aretha Franklin. Her own career began at an early age as she followed her mother around various cities as she sang in clubs, occasionally getting on stage with her, she released her self-titled debut album in1985 and would go onto become one of the highest selling artists of all time. The Bodyguard star has also won numerous awards during her career including 30 Billboard Music awards and 6 GRAMMY awards.
