Only weeks after being awarded one of the best seats in the house -- the White House briefing room, that is -- Major Garrett said Wednesday that he is leaving Fox News to become a congressional correspondent for National Journal. He told that he was stepping down in order to join a reporting team that is "almost too good to be true. That they would want to find a place for me, a TV guy, to come back to print after eight years, that's a big thing. It's a happy coincidence that things converged, and I'm very much looking forward to the next thing." Asked whether Fox's opinion programming had anything to do with his departure, he replied tersely, "No."
