Wet Wet Wet are all set to embark on a 25th anniversary gig this summer. The special one off concert will take place on Glasgow Green on July 20, 2012 and will mark Wet Wet Wet's first live appearance in around five years, according to the Press Association. The band made the announcement at an intimate performance at Glasgow City Chambers, where they performed their biggest hit, 'Love Is All Around' as well as 'Temptation' and 'Goodnight Girl.'
25 years ago this week, Wet Wet Wet released their debut single, Wishing I Was Lucky. The band went on to release 27 chart hits and have sold over 15 million records worldwide. In total, the band have spent a total of 508 weeks in the UK singles and album charts and they famously deleted from sale their sensationally popular single, a cover of The Troggs' 'Love Is All Around,' the week before it could have equalled Bryan Adams' record for the longest-standing number one single in the UK.
Marti Pellow and co. last played at Glasgow Green in 1989 and the singer told reporters "I love singing with Wet Wet Wet. To get to play all those classic pop songs in my hometown will make it a special day for the fans and us." Tommy Cunningham added "It was a major honour and career highlight when we took to the stage at Glasgow Green some 20 years ago. We feel humbled and even more honoured to have that opportunity again."
