Reggae artist Wayne Smith has died at the age of 48.

The Under Mi Sleng Teng hitmaker passed away in Kingston, Jamaica on Monday (17Feb14) after he was rushed to the hospital complaining of stomach pains.

Smith began his career in 1982, when he released his first album, Youthman Skanking, at the age of 17.

His song Under Mi Sleng Teng, which he produced with musician Noel Davey, is credited with creating the ragga style of reggae, which uses only digital technology to record music.

In 1989, the singer created his own record label, Sleng Teng Records.
