Charitable rapper Warren G has released a remix of his single GET U DOWN as a tribute to the survivors of Hurricane Katrina.

The West Coast music star altered the words of his rap on the tune, which also features Snoop Dogg and Ice Cube, because he felt it was more important to get to the heart of issues troubling black America than to pander to stereotypes.

He tells, "I talk about the police handcuffing five-year-old girls, freeway shootings and I touch on situations that we need to look at.

"I wanted to address what's going on instead of talking about 24-inch rims on every song. This is a reality check."

The video for the song features scenes of the rescue efforts in the wake of the hurricane disaster, which left parts of America's Gulf Coast ravaged.

A ringtone and video download are available through the Jamster website, with a portion of the proceeds to be donated to the Red Cross Hurricane Katrina relief.
