Alicia Vikander has been cast to tackle action woman Lara Croft in director Roar Uthaug's revamp, and The Hateful Eight star will reportedly join her as the bad guy.

Angelina Jolie previously starred in the two previous Tomb Raider movies - 2001's Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and 2003's Lara Croft: Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, while Rhona Mitra appeared as the live action model for Lara Croft in Eidos Interactive's Tomb Raider video game series.

The Wave director Uthaug insists his Tomb Raider heroine will be more human than Jolie's Croft, stating, "I think making Lara Croft feel like a real human being, that's definitely something we want to bring to the big screen."

The new film is slated for release in 2018.
