Soccer tough guy-turned-movie star Vinnie Jones faced his fears and sang in front of cameras for his new role as a medieval king's right hand man in new U.S. Tv musical Galavant, revealing he had only previously hit the high notes when he was drunk.

The Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels star is winning rave reviews for his role as Gareth in the new comedy, but admits it took a lot of courage to show off his singing skills without a drink in his hand.

He tells U.S. late night chat show host Conan O'Brien, "They asked me to sing sober and it was quite hard... I haven't been drinking for two years.

"I used to enjoy a drink at the weekends."
