Verne Troyer has been hospitalised for alcohol abuse.

The 'Austin Powers' actor has been treated in a San Fernando Valley facility for the last week and will be checking into a rehab clinic for help with his addiction in the near future.

Following a report on TMZ which claimed he had been in hospital for almost two weeks, Verne confirmed on Instagram: ''I've been hearing from some concerned fans, so I'd like to address a personal situation.

''As you know, I've battled alcohol addiction in the past and while it's not always been an easy fight, I'm willing to continue my fight day by day.

''I've been receiving treatment for the last week and I am voluntarily checking into a treatment center later this week to continue to get the help that I need.(sic)''

Verne - who has been in rehab at least twice in the past and reportedly almost died from alcohol poisoning in 2002 - went on to thank his fans for their supportive messages.

The 48-year-old star added: ''I want to thank everyone that's reached out with their messages of support, it truly means the world to me. With your support, I got this.''

The actor has been seen drunk on TV before.

When he appeared on 'The Surreal Life' in 2005, he drunkenly stripped naked and peed on the floor.

A few years later, he took part in 'Celebrity Big Brother' and crashed his motorised scooter into a door after becoming intoxicated.
