A 14-year-old Iranian girl is up for one of the main awards at this year's (03) Venice Film Festival.

HANA MAKHMALBAF's film JOY OF MADNESS has been nominated for Best Debut, which carries with it a prize of $113,600 (GBP71,000).

The documentary film is about her sister SAMIRA making her own film in Afghanistan - although Samira believes The Joy of Madness is better than her finished flick AT FIVE IN THE AFTERNOON.

Hana grew up in Iran's most famous film family, as both her sister and father are celebrated directors. Her first short film was made at the age of eight and screened at the LOCARNO FILM FESTIVAL.
