Vanessa Hudgens bonded with her 'Beastly' co-star Alex Pettyfer over music.

The 21-year-old actress admits she knew little about the British star before she took the role, only meeting him a few days before.

She said: "I didn't know much about him. We actually met at an event a few days earlier, coincidentally, and about a week later we met with Daniel Barnz the director brought us in to read together.

"We did bond over music; I think that's always an easy thing to get to know someone. We bonded over Kings Of Leon; he likes Kings of Leon as well, and I'm the biggest fan.

"And sometimes, before scenes, I would listen to the Plain White T's 'Hey There Delilah', before a really sweet scene too, because I think it puts you in the right headspace."

'Beastly' is a modern day re-telling of 'Beauty and the Beast', and Vanessa admits the new version is "twisted".

She told MTV News: "We took bits and pieces of the original, like the transformation; you have to find someone who loves you to break the spell. But we twisted it a little bit and made it a bit darker and threw in a few oddities that weren't in the original."

'Beastly' is released in the UK on October 15.
