Pop star Vanessa Carlton couldn't escape piano playing when she was growing up - she was always surrounded by Steinways and Baby Grands.
Carlton's mother was a "terrible" piano saleswoman, who could never get rid of the huge instruments she planned to sell.
The singer recalls, "At one point we had five in one room, but the reason why was because my mother was selling pianos.
"She was a terrible saleswoman. Plus, nobody in our town could afford a piano, so they were all sitting in my house. I played all of them."10/12/2004 09:29
