Tyler Perry's new comedy movie MADEA GOES TO JAIL has shot to the top of the U.S. box office chart, with huge opening weekend takings of $41.1 million (£29 million).
The film, about an African American matriarch's run-ins with the law, scored Perry's biggest ever opening weekend takings, and is on course to become his largest hit.
Nearest contender Taken had to settle for second place - the Liam Neeson thriller managed $11.4 million (£8 million), taking its four-week total to $95.2 million (£67 million).
Animated film Coraline came in third with $11 million (£7.74 million); ahead of He's Just Not That Into You with $8.5 million (£6 million) and Oscars Favourite Slumdog Millionaire, with $8 million (£5.6 million).
