Rapper Twista has been banned from an Alabama music festival, after city officials deemed his lyrics too lewd.

Five commissioners in Jefferson County agreed they would not provide $200,000 (GBP111,100) in public money for the CITY STAGES festival, scheduled to take place in June (04), if the SLOW JAMZ rapper performed.

The officials have branded Twista's lyrics racially insensitive and offensive to women.

Organisers of the festival say in a statement, "City Stages has no more important partner than the JEFFERSON COUNTY COMMISSION. Our partner has made us aware they do not regard the hip-hop act Twista as appropriate for this year's festival.

"We have listened to their concerns, and Twista will not perform at City Stages, even though he was to have played a clean show."

The commission felt that the rapper's use of the word n****r was not tolerable and labelled the rapper's music "filth".
