Rockers TV On The Radio are set to unveil their first new album since the 2011 death of bassist Gerard Smith.

The Wolf Like Me hitmakers suffered a big blow when Smith dropped out of the cult band's summer 2011 tour to undergo treatment following his lung cancer diagnosis.

The 36 year old lost his battle with the disease in April, 2011, eight days after the release of the group's fourth studio album, Nine Types of Light.

The band returned to the studio last year (13) to work on new songs, and now singer Tunde Adebimpe reveals the project will be released in the coming months.

A statement issued by Adebimpe reads: "We've been through a lot of stuff in the past few years that could have stopped the band cold. But I'm glad we got it together and took stock of the unique connection we have between each other because the record is, 1,000 percent, without a doubt, the best thing we've ever done."
