He was best known for his work on songs by Do Or Die and Twista, appearing on Twista's 1996 hit Po Pimp and the rapper's Do Or Die single Yo Body.

He also released two solo albums.

Paying tribute to the singer, Lupe Fiasco wrote: "RIP Johnny P. Po-Pimpin! Chicago Legend!" while Twista tweeted: "Damn my dawg #JohnnyP is gone,im@speechless right now #RIP."

Johnny P's family members have confirmed the singer was on life support for the weeks leading up to his death.
