Country star Trace Adkins invited Kevin Costner to sing on his new holiday album after discovering the actor's daughter was already working on the record.

The Ladies Love Country Boys hitmaker released his first Christmas album, The King's Gift, in October (13), and while he was recording the tracks, he didn't realise the singer he was working with, Lily Costner, had superstar connections.

Adkins tells Queen Latifah on her U.S. talk show, "Lily, his daughter, sang two or three songs on the record, and I was just in (the studio) one day listening to some tracks and I said, 'Who is that singing?' and he (the producer) said, 'That's Lily Costner.' And I said, 'I'm not familiar with her', and he said, 'You probably know her old man.'

"And I said, 'No way! Her dad's Kevin Costner?' So I said, 'Well, call him and see if he wants to sing (on the record)... He's a good singer too."

The Bodyguard actor obliged and sang on The King's Gift, and Adkins returned the favour by singing with Costner's band, Kevin Costner & Modern West.
