Director Ridley Scott was seen boarding a plane bound for Los Angeles from London, after being informed that his brother and fellow director Tony Scott had committed suicide.
Tony, who directed such Hollywood hits as Top Gun, Beverly Hills Cop II and the Quentin Tarantino scripted True Romance, died Sunday (August 19th) after flinging himself from the Vincent Thomas Bridge in Los Angeles County. Scott's death is being investigated as a suicide by the Lapd, after his car was found abandoned near the bridge and a suicide note was found in his office. According to police, several people rang 911 around 12:35 p.m. to report that someone had jumped from the Vincent Thomas Bridge. When a dive team searched the harbour and eventually found his body it was passed over to the Los Angeles coroner department who identified it as being Tony.
Even though he directed such blockbusters as Top Gun and Days of Thunder, he never came close to reaching the level of critical acclaim that came with his brother's work. He is survived by his wife, Donna Wilson Scott, and their twin sons, Frank and Max, who were born in 2000. It is believed that the reason for Scott's suicide now lies with the fact that he may have had inoperable brain cancer, however this has yet to be confirmed or denied by the Scott camp.
