Three decades is an awfully long time for any cultural phenomenon to be away from the screens, but former ‘Blackadder’ star Tony Robinson has floated the suggestion that the much-loved comedy series could return for a fifth series.

The 72 year old actor, who portrayed the character Baldrick in all four of the original series of ‘Blackadder’ wants to reunite with Rowan Atkinson, Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie and Tim McInnerny for another series, 29 years after the show was last broadcast.

“I do see a version of the show coming back,” Robinson told The Sun on Wednesday (September 26th). “There are a host of other periods in history which could be turned into a six-part ‘Blackadder’ series.”

Mark Hamill is travelling across the pond, for a role in Greg Davies Channel 4 comedy ‘Man Down’. The Luke Skywalker actor will play a new character in one episode of the upcoming third series, but little has been given away about Hamill’s role.

Mark Hamill will appear in the third series of ‘Man Down’.

Channel 4 are keen to keep Hamill’s character a secret, but have confirmed that he will not be playing himself. A source told the Radio Times: "He is a big fan of comedy and loves ‘Man Down’. He was really keen to do this.”

Sir Tony Robinson has said he thinks a new series of classic BBC comedy ‘Blackadder’ is on the cards, but only if they can meant the price of Hugh Laurie. Laurie was one of the stars of the British sitcom in the 1980's but he has since gone on to find success across the pond in Fox drama ‘House', raising his price tag.

Speaking to The Sun, 69 year old Robinson said, “I do think a new series of 'Blackadder' is on the cards. I have spoken to virtually all the cast about this now. The only problem is Hugh’s fee. He’s a huge star now – or so he’d like to think.”

Captain Blackadder, Lieutenant George and Private Baldrick, some of the most enduring comedy characters of all time, had real-life namesakes, it has emerged.

The Blackadder characters were...actually...real people.

The BBC comedy Blackadder, which covered four periods of history enduring with a series, set in the trenches, was invented by Richard Curtis, Rowan Atkinson and Ben Elton. However, it seems the trio's defining creations really did 'go forth' in World War I after a specialist military genealogy website traced real life counterparts of Captain Blackadder and his cohorts.

The shortlist for the Blue Peter Book Awards was announced this week, honouring the best examples of children-targeted fiction and non-fiction works from the past year. Known best for his role as Baldrick on the BBC's historical sitcom Blackadder and for his presenting job on Channel 4's Time Team, Sir Tony Robinson is among the would-be winners in the non-fiction category, but he faces stiff competition if he wants to win his second Blue Peter title.

Tony Robinson’s Weird World of Wonders: World War II, illustrated by Del Thorpe, is up for the top non-fiction prize and would be the second work by Robinson to win the Blue Peter award should he be successful this year. He previously won in 2007 for The Worst Children's Jobs in History. Robinson faces tough competition in the non-fiction shortlist however, with Jonathan Litton and Thomas Flintham's Marvellous Maths and Jon Richards & Ed Simkins' The World in Infographics: Animal Kingdom standing in his way to success.

Tony Robinson has officially become a Sir as he was knighted by Prince William at Buckingham Palace today (November 12, 2013). Beloved for his role as Baldrick in the legendary British comedy, Blackadder, Robinson couldn’t get through the routine without a "little bit of Baldrick” creeping over him.

The 67-year-old, who is still best known for playing Baldrick was knighted in the Birthday Honours list in recognition of his public and political service.

"I messed it up completely - I forgot that you were supposed to bow at the beginning, I was just stood there and I was looking at HRH and he was looking at me,” he said, recalling his knighthood. (Sky News)

Professor Mick Aston has died aged 66, Channel 4's Time Team has announced. The circumstances surrounding his death have, as yet, not been revealed. Time Team tweeted the sad news yesterday evening saying "It is with a very heavy heart that we've been informed that our dear colleague Mick Aston has passed away. Our thoughts are with his family."

The archaeology professor was a resident academic on Time Team. The channel 4 programme, presented by actor Tony Robinson (Blackadder) finished earlier this year at the end of its 20th series. It was hugely popular with the public for its eccentric academics of which Aston was one. 

Aston left the programme in 2011 after he claimed Channel 4 had 'dumbed down' the programme. His decision does not appear to have caused animosity amongst any of his colleagues on the show as tributes to the archaeologist have flooded in from colleagues and admirers alike.
