Veteran singer Tony Bennett will pay tribute to Amy Winehouse at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday (28Aug11).
The I Left My Heart in San Francisco crooner grew fond of the troubled Brit when they worked together on a track for his upcoming duets album and he recently revealed he tried to convince her to clean up her life after a series of drug problems.
Winehouse died in London last month (Jul11) and now her old friend is set to make his first appearance at the VMAs since 1993 to honour the Rehab singer.
Bennett will introduce video footage of Winehouse recording the standard Body & Soul with him.
Announcing his participation in Sunday's prizegiving in Los Angeles, Bennett says, "It was a thrill to record with Amy Winehouse... She was one of the most honest musicians I have ever known."
Bennett plans to donate all proceeds from the track to the Amy Winehouse Foundation.
Her father Mitch is thrilled about the idea of Bennett paying tribute to his daughter: "The family is honoured that the VMAs are giving Amy this wonderful tribute."
On Tuesday (23Aug11), toxicology reports confirmed that the 27-year-old singer did not have drugs in her system when she died.
