The star passed away after suffering a stroke at his home in Miami, Florida on Wednesday (22Mar17).

Milian moved from Cuba to pursue a career as an actor in the U.S. and studied at New York's Actors Studio.

He found success in Italy, where he starred in several movies, including La notte brava, The Bounty Killer, and Don't Torture a Duckling.

The actor later returned to the U.S. and appeared in films like Amistad, Traffic, Fools Rush In, and The Lost City. Milian also acted in many stage productions and was honoured with a lifetime achievement award by the Rome Film Festival in 2014.

He is survived by his actor son Tomaso Milian, Jr.
