The Saving Private Ryan actor, 54, was arrested at his Los Angeles home last month (Jul16) after an argument with his girlfriend allegedly turned violent.

He was booked for domestic violence, and was subsequently released on $50,000 (£38,350) bail.

Prosecutors from the L.A. County District Attorney's Office declined to pursue the incident as a felony as his alleged victim only suffered minor injuries but handed the case on to city prosecutors.

According to editors at, prosecutors at the L.A. City Attorney's office have now charged the star with domestic violence, battery and making terrorist (criminal) threats. Tom faces up to three years in jail if convicted.

The actor's arrest has seen him dropped by his manager and then from his role on TV show Shooter.

His arrest is the latest in a long line of legal problems for the actor, who in 2003 served six months in jail for beating up his then-girlfriend, former Hollywood madam Heidi Fleiss.

In 2005 the troubled star was sentenced to seven months in jail and four months in a drug treatment programme for repeatedly failing drug tests while on probation.

His ex-manager Charles Lago referenced the actor's alleged problems with substance abuse when announcing he would no longer represent the star.

"We have come to the conclusion that we cannot continue representing Sizemore in good conscience," Charles told after Tom's recent arrest. "We cannot condone Sizemore's continued abuse of drugs and violence against other individuals."
