Late BEATLE GEORGE HARRISON was inducted into the ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME last night (15MAR04) in recognition of his achievements as a solo artist.

The MY SWEET LORD star - who died of cancer in November 2001 - was represented by his widow Olivia and their son DHANI, who were presented with the accolade by Harrison's good friend Tom Petty.

An emotional Olivia told the crowd, "I can talk about George forever but I won't. There was a quote by an Indian poet that said, 'Blessed is he whose fame does not outshine his truth,' and here we are in the Hall of Fame.

"George said he tried to write songs that would still mean something years from now. In spite of his immense fame, his truth will never be outshined and forgotten. If he were here he'd get a kick out of tonight wanting to see everybody and party.

"Let's let George's music speak for itself."

Her speech was followed by a version of Harrison's classic hit WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS performed by Petty, Dhani, Harrison's TRAVELLING WILBURYS bandmate Jeff Lynne and Prince on guitar.
