Sir Tom Jones has never ''f**ked up'' his life.

The 72-year-old singer - who has been married to wife Melinda for 55 years - says he has had a good life up to now as there has not been much ''darkness'' to it.

He said: ''There hasn't been much darkness in my life. I've never really f**ked it up.

''But I've always thought of singing as being like acting, so I try to put myself in the position of the person the song is about. It's also the same as a film. If the writing isn't there, the song won't be any good.''

However, the 'What's New Pussycat?' singer admits he does get nervous before he goes on stage, no matter where the gig is.

He added to the Daily Star newspaper: ''I still lie awake at night hoping I don't muck it up. It's not like I'm just backstage taking it all for granted and skipping onto the stage.''

He is also hoping to turn his life into a film and although he used to think Take That singer Robbie Williams was the best man for the job, he now believes he is too old at 38.

He added: ''At one time I thought Robbie Williams would do a good job playing me. But now even he's a bit old, and you'd need someone who could plan an even younger me. I think Paolo Nutini could do a good job, certainly with the singing.''
