Tom Hanks, Tom Cruise and Steven Spielberg are hanging with the big boys of the information age, according to style magazine Vanity Fair's 2003 list of powerful people.

NEWS CORPORATION chief Rupert Murdoch has beaten computer boffins BILL GATES and Steve Jobs and eBAY president MEG WHITMAN to the top spot, but Spielberg ranks as the top celebrity, coming in at number 15.

Hanks is ranked 20, just behind MIRAMAX siblings BOB and Harvey Weinstein, at number 18, and Cruise sails in at number 28 - behind Oprah Winfrey (25), one of only two women in the top 30, and Disney boss Michael Eisner (26).
