James Meyers of Concord, North Carolina, was apprehended by police on Tuesday (22Mar15) after officers found an outstanding warrant for his arrest pertaining to an unreturned VHS rental from 2002.

The warrant came to light when Meyers was pulled over for driving with a broken taillight.

Meyers was allowed to drive off after promising to turn himself in later in the day. When he did, he was placed in handcuffs and charged with failure to return rental property, which is a misdemeanour punishable by a fine.

Green, who was briefly married to Drew Barrymore, took to Twitter on Wednesday (23Mar16) and wrote, "I just saw this and I am struggling to believe it is real."

He has since told the New York Daily News he has spoken to Meyers and plans to help him with his legal expenses.

"If it's 200 bucks of course I'll pay it for him, just for the principle of the thing," Green said.

Following his police station ordeal, Meyers told local reporters he was frustrated with the time spent on his arrest.

"They're not focusing on the crimes I think they should be focusing on," he said.
