Tom Cruise stunned the graduating class at an acting school in California on Sunday (14Jul13) by taking to the stage as their commencement speaker.

Students at the Joanne Baron/D.W. Brown Studio gathered for their graduation ceremony in Santa Monica, and they had no clue the Top Gun superstar was set to deliver a speech until he stepped onto the stage.

During his talk, Cruise advised the graduates to throw themselves into the world of filmmaking.

A source tells New York Post gossip column Page Six, "It was one of the most inspiring speeches we've had. It was so much more than a lecture about what to do in an audition.

"He said that when you do finally get the chance of being in a movie, don't spend the time in the trailer. He said you need to experience everything on the movie, talk to everyone on the crew, the grips, everyone. Learn everything you can. You will never get that time back. He talked about trying to be as prepared as possible, and that you can only depend on yourself."
