A sequel to Tom Cruise's 2012 film Jack Reacher is in the works, according to a U.S. report.

The Mission: Impossible star is expected to reprise his role as a former military officer who investigates dangerous crimes in the new movie, which will be based on Lee Child's 18th book in the Jack Reacher series, Never Go Back, according to Deadline.com.

Details surrounding the production start date are currently under wraps, but studio executives are reportedly aiming to start shooting after Cruise completes filming on Mission: Impossible 5.

They are also keen to bring back director Christopher MCQuarrie, who is working with Cruise on the new Mission: Impossible movie.
