Tom Cruise has credited wife Katie Holmes' "extraordinary" talent as a mother for keeping their daughter SURI a "happy girl".
The Dawson's Creek star gave birth to the tot in 2006 and took time out from her career to bring up the couple's daughter.
And Cruise is certain that Holmes' attitude to motherhood has helped shape the youngster's friendly personality.
He tells British morning show GMTV, "She is such a happy girl and I think Kate is an extraordinary mother and very calm."
The couple and their two-year-old are constantly followed by paparazzi and throngs of admirers eager to catch a glimpse of the Hollywood family.
Cruise is grateful that onlookers remain "respectful" of his family - because he doesn't want little Suri to be affected by her parents' fame.
The actor adds, "People are very respectful, most of the time. We protect her but you don't want her to be sheltered in any way, and to engage in life and I think that's like any parent.
"We just keep things calm - as long as we're not worried about anything. You just do the best you can."
