Rapper Tinie Tempah has confessed his trademark spectacles are fake and he wears them purely as a fashion statement because there is nothing wrong with his eyesight.

The Written in the Stars hitmaker is rarely seen without a pair of box glasses or round-rimmed spectacles and admits they have become an important part of his image.

However, he has now admitted he wears the black frames purely so he is easily recognisable as he has perfect 20/20 vision and does not need glasses.

He tells Britain's Daily Telegraph newspaper, "I was in (London's) Brick Lane market one day and they were selling all these cheap specs for a fiver (£5). I liked the big frames so I started wearing them. This was before I even had a record deal. People said they looked good on me so I started buying way more expensive frames by Cutler and Gross and Ray-Ban, and it became my trademark."
