Tiger Woods has pulled out of a golf tournament he was scheduled to host in California this week (beg30Nov09) after a Friday morning (27Nov09) car accident outside his home in Florida left him hospitalised.
The sports star and pitchman has hosted the Chevron World Challenge for the past several years, but he has confirmed he will not be a part of the event this year.
A statement from the golfer reads, "I'm extremely disappointed that I will not be at my tournament this week... I'm certain it will be an outstanding event."
Woods reveals that the injuries he sustained in the accident prompted him to pull out of the tournament.
Reports suggest Woods was treated for a head injury and lacerations to his face following the car accident. A released 911 emergency call from a neighbour suggests the golfer was dragged from the car and was lying unconscious on the road minutes after colliding with a tree.
Woods and his wife Erin have delayed meeting with authorities to discuss the accident, but the golfer has released a statement, insisting, "This situation is my fault and it's obviously embarrassing to my family and me. I'm human and I'm not perfect. I will certainly make sure this doesn't happen again. This is a private matter and I want to keep it that way."
Charges are pending as investigators search for answers regarding what led to the car crash.
