Simon Cowell has promised viewers a different side to Britney Spears once The X Factor USA begins its second season in September. The singer has joined the judging panel in a reported $15 million deal, and Cowell says she isn't the sweet pop princess that many would have you believe.
In one of the auditions for the television contest, Britney Spears told a singing hopeful, "You can't destroy that song, sweetie.I want to know who let you on stage". Speaking to reporters in a satellite appearance from Miami on Monday, Cowell said, "Britney is quite mean, which I think you will discover". Spears signed on for the 'X Factor' in May, making her one of the biggest celebrities on reality television. She was quickly joined by Demi Lovato, 19, and Cowell said of the two pop singers, "They are harder to please than me or (fourth judge Antonio 'L.A.' Reid) They are very happy giving people a 'no.' They definitely have their own opinions". Spears said she was "just a very honest person" and wanted to bring her 15 years of experience to the table, saying, "I have done eight tours and I have been in the music industry for a while, and I think being able to give back is really interesting".
After a lukewarm reception to last year's show, Cowell said various changes were being made for the upcoming season. He will announce two new hosts in late August, whom he hopes will be a man and a woman without prior television experience.
